What is Filipino Picadillo?
Filipino Picadillo, also known as Giniling is made of ground beef with diced carrots, potatoes, salt and pepper to taste. For a sweeter version add raisin, you can also add green peas for additional texture to the dish.
Furthermore, it’s also one of the easiest recipes in Filipino Cuisine. Many cultures have a different style of Picadillo. Picadillo was said to be the topmost traditional dish in many Latin American countries. The Philippines inherit the dish from their Spanish colonial ancestors which why this cuisine is one of the natures of Filipino culture. This food was perfect for a Family meal and it could be served cooked rice. So grab your kitchen tools and let’s cook!

INGREDIENTS
1 ½ lbs. ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ raisins
1 cup beef broth
¾ cup frozen green peas
1 onion, chopped
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tomatoes, diced
1 medium carrot, diced
Salt, to taste
Picadillo Cooking Instructions
The main point of cooking is Saute.
It’s better to cook rice while preparing the dish by limiting the prepping time. So to start, begin cooking rice in a pot or rice pan.
Next we saute garlic, onions and tomatoes. Once it gets brown, add the ground beef
After that Fry it for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then add tomato sauce and water. Add potatoes and carrots and bring to a simmer until vegetables are cooked.
Add the tomatoes, pepper, fish sauce, raisins, salt, soy sauce, water and reserved cooked potato and carrot mixture.
Reduce heat to medium and simmer until most of the liquid has evaporated.
Then add peas, stir and remove from heat.
Season it with salt and pepper.
